About CSDC

An ally for 30 years: CSDC is the nation's longest-running, most experienced charter school support and advocacy organization.

In 1989, Executive Director, Eric Premack, helped introduce the charter school concept to California and in 1993 founded the Charter Schools Development Center (CSDC). Eric helped write California's first charter laws in 1992 — and has been hard at work ever since.

We support effective charter schools and leaders.

In addition to being a critical voice, ally, and advocate at the Capitol, CSDC is continually focused on doing what we have defined and refined for nearly 30 years: training charter leaders of all types during our annual Leadership Intensive, charter finance professionals through our Charter Business Officer Training program, board members through our Governance Academy, and now HR personnel through our HR Academy.

The challenges brought on by 2020-21 and the COVID-19 pandemic required a solid, integrated understanding of the complexity of charter regulation, policy, and politics. In 2022, CSDC continues to position itself to help guide California's charter school leaders by being accessible and relevant.

We serve the majority of California charter schools, CMOs, and developers through our membership program.

California's charter schools, charter management organizations, and their leaders from across the state have joined CSDC organization to stay up-to-date through the ongoing operational support we provide, including tools and resources, individualized technical assistance, and trainings, including the Leadership Update Conference.
