Interpreting Growth Data to Evaluate School Quality: Verified Data and Beyond
With AB 1505, charter renewal finally supplements student scores (performance level) to include consideration of student growth from baseline—at least through 2025. This is an important step forward. However, use of growth data is not always straightforward. With the important exception of the fee-based CORE Student Growth Percentiles, the California school community does not yet have access to growth metrics for CAASPP or ELPAC. Local “verified data” assessments provide growth data, but some schools and authorizers may grapple with considerations related to student groups, participation rate, pandemic, and student population issues and more. How should we make sense of these complexities in evaluating data?
This session examines verified data criteria and data use procedures, provides analytics to related to the use of growth data, and presents perspectives of leading experts on using growth data to evaluate school quality.
